Empowering learners is the key to unlocking their full engagement and ownership over the learning process. Innovative schools across the nation and abroad foster this agency by:
- Giving learners the autonomy to choose their learning pathways and use mistakes to grow and improve.
- Creating opportunities for them to reflect on skills they have learned and set goals for continued progress.
- Guiding them to actively engage in authentic feedback cycles as both recipients and peer collaborators.
- Equipping them with tools to capture, celebrate, and share their rich experiences with multiple audiences.
Our 2024 Symposium will center around practices and systems that promote and celebrate learner agency. Session topics include creating meaningful assessments, co-designing curriculum with learners, the expanding role of holistic admissions practices, and tracking and reporting progress on schoolwide competencies. And, of course, we will prominently feature our members and the innovations they use to center learners in their unique contexts.
