Students Inspire College Readiness With Street Art
Voting ends today on SchoolTube’s video competition Going Mindless, which encourages students to express change in their schools or communities by modeling the youthful, positive change by the R&B band Mindless Behavior. The band will pick their favorite student video to award an exclusive Mindless Behavior concert at their school.
The competition has five main categories for entry, which include Stage Stars, Science & Math, Art & Bookies, and Changemakers. Below is a video, entered into the Changemakers category, by a group of motivated and inspired students who created a street art project to encourage increased graduation rates and college-bound students in their community.
The student from O’Farrell Community School, a charter school located in Southeast San Diego, Calif., describes the problems in her neighborhood:
- Only 16 percent of students who graduate are college ready, and
- The majority of the walls in the city are covered in graffiti.
Give the “Education Street Art Project” video a thumbs-up on SchoolTube to help the students win the Going Mindless competition. Our support of student works and competitions like this could mean the difference in students from a struggling neighborhood attending college.
