Next generation schools are creating powerful learning opportunities for students. With digital conversions well underway in K- 12 schools, a variety of instructional tools including learning management systems (LMS) are being adopted.
Getting Smart compiled a series of blogs first published on GettingSmart.com reviewing progress on next-gen learning platforms, as well as adaptive learning applications – particularly those supporting a large, diverse library of content. The following platforms were featured:
- Edsby
- itslearning
- RealizeIt
- Mileposts from Silverback
- PEAK by Fuel Education
- Fishtree
- Alma
- Edmodo
- Edgenuity
- Buzz from Agilix
- Canvas by Instructure
- Schoology
- Gaggle
- Highlight by Education Elements
The resulting Smart Bundle includes interviews and information gained from school district leaders on their decision making process for choosing a learning platform, and information on existing platforms that:
- Power and track personal learning plans
- Manage assignments and dynamic grouping
- Support development of standards-aligned projects
- Make it easy to combine proprietary, open, district and teacher developed content
- Combine formative assessment in a standards-based grade book
- Incorporate social, collaborative, productivity, and presentation tools
- Integrate with other systems, provide single sign-on for lots of apps
- Connect students, parents, and teachers anywhere on any device
As technology creates more change, so will the platforms that are supporting the most powerful learning, adapting to meet the needs of schools, students, teachers and families. While there may not be one learning platform that does it all, making informed decisions is critical for schools and districts.
