Getting Smart Podcast | Jeff Petty, Puget Sound Consortium for School Innovation

It’s time to turn up the volume.

For episode two of the Getting Smart Podcast, Bonnie talks Deeper Learning and education leadership prep with Jeff Petty, Founder & Director of the Puget Sound Consortium for School Innovation, a Big Picture Learning initiative.

In 2005, Jeff founded Highline Big Picture High School, now grades 7 to 12, and served as principal and co-principal for eight years. Now he works with regional and national partners to scale highly personalized secondary schools and improve the climate for public school innovation.

While meeting with Jeff, we asked him, “What gets you up in the morning?”

His response: “Other than the alarm, [I am] trying to shift the design priorities of schools to be more what students need.” That “need,” he goes on to share, involves the creation of environments and experiences that place students at the center.

Jeff shares his work at the Danforth Educational Leadership Program at University of Washington, his impact opportunity idea of creating regional leadership collaboratives, and the essential experiences and mindsets that principals need in order to lead schools.

Watch Jeff talk about an impact opportunity he is excited about.
