Zeebo Using Game Consoles to Reach Home Learners in BRICs
The Economic Times reports that India’s education giant Educomp formed a joint venture with San Diego-based Zeebo
Education solutions firm Educomp Solutions on Tuesday said it has formed a joint venture with US-based Zeebo and Lakshya Digital to sell devices with educational content in India. “Zeebo India, the joint venture firm, will work towards tailoring Zeebo’s technology and developing content for school children in India ,” Educomp Solutions CEO Shantanu Prakash told reporters here. The partners will make an initial investment of $4 million towards the JV firm, he added.
Zeebo was the brainchild of two people a world apart who came together to realize a shared dream. At Qualcomm Inc. in San Diego, Mike Yuen was exploring new forms of gaming using innovative technologies. He had an idea combining Qualcomm’s wireless MSM chipset and BREW content delivery ecosystem to create a completely wireless entertainment and education platform. Meanwhile, at Tectoy S.A. in Sao Paulo, Brazil, life-long gamer, entrepreneur, journalist and forward thinker Reinaldo Normand conceived of a new 3D system for the developing world and contacted Qualcomm.
Zeebo India will be a joint venture between Zeebo Inc, a firm funded by Qualcomm Inc, Educomp and Lakshya Digital, which is an interactive content development studio, the firm said in a statement to the exchange.
