10+ Facebook Apps for Education

Facebook has been making headlines in education the past few weeks. As more and more students spend time on the social networking site, studies are looking at the ways that it affects learning.

While many teachers and professors are concerned about the distraction potential it carries, many organizations are developing apps to leverage the space that students spend roughy 100 minutes a day “hanging out.”

This week, we’ve compiled 11 apps that provide educational value on Facebook:

  1. Acceptly provides step-by-step guidance on how to get into college.
  2. AdmissionSplash allows you to predict which colleges will accept your application.
  3. Connect Fund, which launches this January, will allow students to view their financial aid options based on their demographic and information on Facebook.
  4. Schools App by Inigral builds a private Facebook community for colleges and universities interested in giving students a place to make friends, share interests and get involved in campus life.
  5. Hoot.me helps students connect over classroom projects and other school work. Students can chat, talk face-to-face, and share screens to work on assignments.
  6. Ace Flashcards App allows students to create flashcards, look up words and more. It’s an easy, digital way for students to study within Facebook.
  7. Zoho Online Office allows you to save, share and collaborate on all of your documents online and within Facebook for free.
  8. weRead allows students and professors to share books they are reading, write reviews, and more.
  9. Study Groups helps students get together to work on projects, study for exams and more.
  10. WorldCat allows students and professors to record research and share information with others.
  11. The SlideShare app for Facebook allows students and professors to share presentations within the social networking site.
